As I come across information, ideas, tips and resources that help me in my journey, I’ll add these here. If you have great ideas you feel others would like to know about as well, I encourage you to leave them here on the blog. The more we can share the more successful we’ll be together!
A Resource to Help you Along the Way…
Resources I am looking into:
FOOD and Nutrition
Weight Watchers www.weightwatchers.ca the point system is great to help me see the portions of food that are more realistic for weight and fat loss. NO CHICKEN WINGS for a while (my favorite) next to wine of course!
Atkins- low carb eating. I watched an awesome show on CBC Sunday called “The Lens” and they tracked a community in Northern BC where the local Aboriginal people there, where many of them suffer from various forms of Diabetes, were asked to go on a low carb diet and eat their traditional foods, high in protein and fat for one year. They had remarkable results in weight loss, but mostly they lowered the amount of medications they were taking for heart problems and diabetic issues. So I was inspired to take out all sugars and starches. Eat only veggies for my carbs.
Cleanse:As well, I hiked with a friend on Monday and she suggested I try a short cleanse to kick start my program, so she dropped off the Isagenix shake to get me started for a week. I will start that this week.
Exercise and Activity
In order to loose one pound a week for 50 weeks, I need to walk way more than I have been walking. So to loose one pound a week, you need to walk on hour or about 4-5km per day. Or… you need to pick up the pace and intensity of your workouts and add in some weights as well. And one of the best ways to do that is to do what JJ Virgin suggests is “Burst Training” or what everyone for years has called it: Interval training.
Walk for about 3 mins and then run as hard as you can for about 45 seconds. and repeat this 6-8 times over the next 30-40 min. This can be done on the Ellipticalor on a set of stairs, what ever your favorite activity is. So get after it. If I can move this pre-menopausal body you can too!
Cheers till next time: Linda Mae
5 Ways to lose 5 pounds
1. Do interval training, or burst traning, where you do 2 mins of easy movement followed by 1-2 min of “as hard as you can go” movement. Start with 3 sets of each and work your way up to fill an hour. This is more effective than 30 minutes of moderate cardio because it tricks the body into burning the max amount of calories” according to David Barton who is a trainer for some of the big name stars.
2. Staying Hydrated keeps your metabolism going and allows your body to burn fat more efficiently. So drink your water! I also love to change up with the new Vitamin Water.
3. Try and eat your biggest meal of the day right after you workout because your body is still burning extra energy. And the calories you burn will be used for workout recuperation and not stored as fat.
4. If you lift it, you lose it! Get some weight training in. Build up some lean muscle and your metabolism will start to soar.
5. Not into big workouts, then Walk it Out! Walking about 1 hour consists of about 500 calories and over a week that equals about one pound. So Walk this way…

I attended your motovational speech in Nfld
in April and thoroughly enjoyed you. I didn’t get a card to pass in the card. I would like to receive e-mails from you. I am presently arranging to have a humour board at my place of work and wondered if you had anything that I could use for the humour part of it. Looking forward to your reply,

I landed on your blog by checking out the article my daughter (who lives in Vancouver,BC) sent me this morning called “What no Beef? And no wine?”. Sure made me chuckle, nodding my head in agreement.
This article is a gem and really rings the bell with me and my 2 girlfriends. The 3 of us have been hanging out for well over 10 years taking trips together and all but lately one of us…I guess not me…has been going to the extremes a bit in the quest for perfect health and perfect body. Needless to say, she went on a similar retreat as the funny article mentioned and was trying to convince us she had lots of fun…..I my opinion pulling a bad tooth out is necessary for your health and for your looks but would I really call that lots of fun…?
Anyway, I like your blog and will read more.
